How to Change Your Address with the CRA

If you have moved or are planning a move, it’s important to update your address with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) right away. Keeping your address current ensures you receive tax notices, refunds, benefit payments, and other important correspondence without delay.

Why Update Your Address?

Updating your address helps the CRA validate your identity when you call and makes sure important mail reaches you. It also ensures benefits like the Canada Child Benefit or GST/HST credits aren’t interrupted.

Ways to Update Your Address

1. Online (Fastest Method)

Log in to your CRA My Account, go to your profile, and edit your contact information. Changes are usually processed immediately.

2. By Phone

If you can’t sign in online, you can call CRA to update your address. Be ready with your Social Insurance Number (SIN), date of birth, full name, old and new address, and a recent tax document to verify your identity.

  • Individual tax enquiries (within Canada): 1-800-959-8281
  • Territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut): 1-866-426-1527
  • Outside Canada/U.S. (collect calls accepted): call the international CRA line
  • TTY services for hearing impaired: available through CRA

CRA telephone lines are typically open Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Eastern Time, closed on weekends and public holidays.

3. By Mail

Complete the RC325 Address Change Request form or send a signed letter with your SIN, old address, new address, and date of your move to your tax centre. Processing by mail may take several weeks.

4. On Your Tax Return

You can update your address when filing your tax return. If you file electronically or on paper, providing the new address will update CRA records when the return is processed.

Important Notes

Changing your CRA address does not update your address with other government departments, so remember to contact Service Canada and your province or territory separately.

Need Assistance?

If you have trouble updating your address online or by phone, tax professionals and community tax clinics may be able to help you with the process.
